Land's End to John o' Groats |
|
Will and James do Land's End to John O' GroatsWill Harvey and James Catley-Day, two school leavers who used to attend a school very well known to ourselves, King's School, Bruton, have set themselves a monster of a challenge. They are cycling from Land's End to John O Groats, and aim to complete the 1000 mile route in 10 days. Don't ask us why they have decided put themselves through it but whatever the reasons are, we are know one of them is extremelly worth while. They are cycling to raise money for Mendip Community Transport, a not for profit transport provider which operates accessible vehicles for community groups, the disabled, elderly, frail, the blind, mobility-impaired and similar disadvantaged groups/individuals, residing in the Mendip area. The chaps have been extremelly pro-active in raising money and spreading the word. The recently attended the Bath and West Show and this entry from their blog says it all: Had a great day at Bath and West. Raised £80 on the day with the hope of raising more through the King's Bruton School stand. James and myself were both on the turbo trainer at the show and ended up rather hot and sweaty!! A great day which ended on a high when we found out the BBC want to film part of our route. So a great day and thanks to everyones support and donations!! They started their training and planning while still doing their exams and we would like to take this chance to wish them luck with their results and obviously their training. If you would like to show your support for the boys and their very worthwhile charity then please follow the links below. An achievement to be proud of... |
|
The race has been completed and the boys have returned safely. They have said "a huge thanks to Dorset Flapjacks for the support they gave us and the flapjacks provided us with exactly the energy we needed." We couldn't have been more excited about their adventures and were proud to be part of their amazing feat. They not only rowed the Atlantic but they were the youngest people to ever row an ocean, and as far as we know are being featured in the Guinness world records. We would like to express our congratulatons and look forward to their next adventure? We doubt they are even thinking about anything else, and enjoying a well earned rest. Well done lads.
Two inspiring young men, Tom Heal and Will Smith have set themselves a challenge the size of the
Atlantic. They have decided to take part in the Woodvale Atlantic Row Race 2009. A 2548 Nautical Mile race from La Gomera in th Canary Islands to Antigua in the West Indies. It has been non stop since day one with getting sponsorship, buying a boat, training, preping and getting to the start line. There has been a delay in the start for a few weeks due to bad weatherbut there is now a break in this and they have set off. They started at lunch time on the 4th January 2009 and have rowed 42 Nautical Miles at the last update. To follow these two inspiring chaps for yourselves please visit their website (www.atlanticrowyt.co.uk) or follow Dorset Flapjacks on Twitter were we will update you as and when we know anything. Dorset Flajacks have provided the team with high energy flapjacks and some sponsorship to get them on their way. We wish them all the luck in the world and will see them when they finish. |
